Day 130: Cookie Spread

When I saw this deliciousness on sale today, I knew I was about to splurge. And what a splurge. I've only had Biscoff's cookie spread once before, but I remembered that it was amazing. And luckily I remembered correctly. This is basically cookies made into a spread. Can you say delicious?

Day 129: Snow

I took this photo just after midnight, so technically I took it today. I'm glad I snapped this pic, because by the time I got up this morning, the snow was basically gone. The Flagstaff airport recorded 4.3 inches of snow after midnight, and 1.5 inches before midnight. I can't believe it snowed like this on May 9!

Day 128: Eyes

Today I got to go back in to the optometrist and get my eyes dilated. This was a first for me, and I can't say that it was all that fun. Even though it was snowing when I left the eye doctor's, I still needed sunglasses. And I headed over to Kohls, which is next door to my optometrist, and shopped while my pupils returned to normal. It was there in a dressing room that I took this photo of my strange eyes.

And now I'm lamenting the fact that the shirt in the background did not fit, because it's super cute!

Day 127: 74 Miles

I pass this sign every day on my way to work.  I must admit, it kind of makes me want to visit the Grand Canyon every time I see the sign. Only 74 miles away, I think. So close! But alas, I cannot go this national park every week. I have visited the Grand Canyon twice already and have plans to go at least once this summer.

Day 126: Trees

I live in the middle of the largest contiguous ponderosa pine forest in North America. The forest is beautiful, and I think it's pretty cool that this is what I look at outside of my office every day.

Day 125: Driving Arizona

There is an astounding amount of beautiful scenery in Arizona. We drove back from Utah today with the collection that we picked up at BYU. We stopped at this scenic view north of Flagstaff. It's just north of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and close to the Vermillion Cliffs.

Day 124: Utah

Today I added Utah to the list of states that I've visited. Technically, I went to Utah a few weeks ago when I camped in Page. Our campsite was about 100 yards past this sign. But today I headed to Utah on a work trip, and we went all the way up to Provo.

Day 123: Plumbing

This is the current scene under our kitchen sink. The pipes are all disconnected and my popcorn bowl is catching water. We knew we had a slow-draining sink and most likely a clog and therefore called it in on Friday. Our complex scheduled a worker to come out on Monday. But today things overflowed. The sink filled with water and the pipes behind our washing machine dumped out water.

The kicker is that we weren't even running water. Our neighbors ran their garbage disposal and it was too much for the clog. Unfortunately, the plumbers that the complex uses were already on calls all evening, so they can't come out until tomorrow morning. So, we can only use the downstairs toilet and, on a very limited basis, the sink in the downstair half-bath. Even so, water comes out these pipe under the kitchen sink. Hence the popcorn bowl.

Day 122: Derby Day

The first Saturday in May is always marked on my calendar - it's Derby Day. After my trip last year to Kentucky, today's Kentucky Derby was even more fun than usual. Churchill Downs and the surrounding bluegrass country was so familiar.

Also familiar was all of this Kentucky fare, some of which I never knew of before our trip. Of course I knew of the famous mint juleps, but the hot brown and Derby pie were unfamiliar to me. All were very tasty!

I also learned a lesson in photography today - don't turn your camera off if you've used weird settings unless you reset the settings. My shutter button was not working properly; I pressed it down to take a photo and nothing happened until several seconds later. I panicked a bit, worried about my camera. It was only after I had devoured the hot brown, downed the mint julep and eaten a slice of pie that I realized I had the timer set on my camera. Total fail on my part. Also, this resulted in slightly out of focus photos. Whoops.

Day 121: Pine and Sunshine

Today was a beautiful day, though also incredibly busy. I had to work in the morning to make up for the time I missed for my eye appointment. I took this photo at my car at work. After work I shopped, picked up my contacts, dropped off rent and discovered that no one in Flag has sorghum syrup. I helped friends pack and load their moving truck and clean their apartment. Then I ran home and baked a pie before heading to the movie theatre to see the Avengers.

It was a long day.
